I look at that, and I think... ...and my first thought is that the hard exoskeleton of ants might be harder to evolve than the soft body of worms. So metamorphic body evolution could be greater in soft bodied animals. However the ants have survived for 100 million years so the hard body that no longer evolves is also safer from environmental factors. Combining these ideas you could say that soft bodied evolution can lead to a more evolved animal that finds it harder to survive from metamorphic skin assaults like heat, acid, and sand blasting. It may be that the soft skin of creatures like worms created all other animals due to extreme changes in their skin that is easily damaged, but damages in fractal shapes... gills for example could be extreme breakages in the skin, with extreme leakages of fractal patterned metamorphosis.
