Pincho Paxton is a beta-theorist which means to have theories before science accepts them as real theories, so here is a beta-theory of Synesthesia.
The basic building fractal of the universe is the Hexagon which applies to everything including senses, so we should have a 6th sense. However the fractal of the hexagon often builds Pentagon structures... Pincho Paxton: Hidden Hexagon Symmetry
In humans the pentagon structure has taken over from the hexagon structure to move more energy towards the brain from a useless missing tail. That change to pentagon reduced our sense, and thought (root) fractal, but made room for more information. That is like a division 600/5 compared to 600/6, but we lost room for some extra senses. Those extra senses therefore were pushed out, and if they are able to push back in again they are a hexagon hidden amongst pentagon fractals, but sharing a single pathway throughout most of the brain.
So Synesthesia is a part of the brain that was lost in our ancestors, and when it reappears it has to share pathways with a new type of brain structure that doesn't completely have room for it.
