We like to think only a few effects along a chain starting with a cause, but we can push our minds to work from an effect that we have decided on, but the probability of all of those effects being correct lessens. However, could you be able to think of many effects at once? Are you a genius?
Man builds robots.
Man sees robots able to run faster, able to survive better.
Man uses robot parts on himself.
Man becomes bionic, able to survive in space better.
Man becomes immortal.
Man can travel space.
Man perfects virtual reality.
Man puts Ai into virtual reality.
Home planet suffers catastrophic event.
Man has no choice but to travel space.
Man travels space living in Virtual Reality simulations, only waking every so often to maintain the ship.
Aliens find Earth waking from a Virtual Reality slumber.
You see, you can think many stages ahead of Cause, and effect, so the link could just be a limited version of events.
