Something then means that red shift has to do with shrinkage, and that the colour red results from crossing more Aether due to it being smaller, and that waves for red are not stretched, but rather bounding over space that is smaller. So take a grid, and say that 3 squares = blue, and 6 squares equal red, but also that 3 inches = blue, and 6 inches equal red. Now half the size of the squares on the grid. 3 inches is now 6 squares, so blue is now red, and red is redder red. The Aether scales down, red shift is not a stretching of space, it is the crossing of a distance that is quantized into a grid, and the grid changes the shape of the waves by compressing them into longer lengths.
