I'm not happy with their examples, they need to start thinking about physics. The symmetry can mean that gravity is being forced into collisions inside the material due to a meeting point that is the 1D structure. So you imagine the symmetry as a labyrinth that leads towards points that create tunnels. By thinking that way you can create the computer simulation, whereas the chocolate idea is not programmable.
