The speed of light is relatively a slow speed compared to the distance across the Galaxy. What you really need to create is a ship that uses a Warp Drive to travel faster than the speed of light. My theory includes some physics not available in the standard model, so I need to propose the ship that uses my physics.
The main idea of my Warp Drive is to move space with the ship, so that the ship is on a sort of conveyor belt. Space in my theory is a super-liquid, and is grain-like. Physical contact with the grain structure of space can create a flow, but the flow melts away very quickly. It's like making a snowball that melts before you can throw it. Spacetime melts at C. Photons are spacetime bumping together to send a message, and as soon as the message is bumped, it melts away.
To move spacetime you have to make a hole in it ahead of the ship. Then space will move towards the hole like an artificial gravity hole.
I don't actually know how to do that yet. To be continued...
