Link... Whales lost their teeth before evolving hair-like baleen in their mouthsPincho says... Evolution is an event which happens to many creatures at once to pass on genes, a bit like entropy. So for example a lot of whales lost their teeth at once, and the ones that had a malformation led to the baleen... it's an event with entropy. So you can then wonder what caused a lot of whales to lose their teeth to create an event like this. For me I would go back to worms, and ignore whales, and pass the event back in time to worms that could either grow teeth, or baleen, that way you cover the idea of entropy. Now you have lots of giant worms growing bones, evolving without teeth, and having baleen. Two groups of worms similar in every way apart from the teeth evolving on land, and then into the sea. So similar that the fossil record gets them confused, and sees only one type of whale. Evolution is an event that you can work out logically when a change is big enough for you to require entropy to lead to a final body shape. Pincho Paxton
