The sphere is a torus rotated around a point, and being as the universe has light speed available to it then the torus can be spun fast enough to pass as a sphere easily. The Calabi-Yau geometries are the holes in the torus being threaded as poles also at high speed.
So basically all you have are high speed Torus being used as a backdrop like an Aether... simple.

Many of the simplest Feynman integrals have the geometry of a sphere or a torus -- the mathematical term for a donut shape.
However, there exist entire families of geometries, so-called Calabi-Yau geometries, which are generalisations of the donut case to higher dimensions
